Nutritional Therapy

A balanced diet is one of the most important aspects of Traditional Chinese Medicine. It is known as "Shi Liao," literally meaning "food therapy," and is rooted in the idea that diet and lifestyle should result in a healthy physical and psychological balance.

Shi Liao is part of a conceptual framework of eating that identifies the medicinal properties of food and uses them as preventative measures against disease. Shi Liao involves the art of combining food and cooking methods to balance the body's constitution.

Traditional Chinese Medicine believes that all food has an innate temperature that is either cool, cold, warm, hot, or neutral and embodies one of the five flavors of bitter, salty, sour, pungent, or sweet. Each of these characteristics has an influence on the body and are integral for maintaining a healthy diet when consumed in a balanced and moderate fashion.

During your session, your practitioner will develop a comprehensive treatment plan that uses the appropriate foods for treating your body. It is a personalized approach that incorporates eating in harmony with the seasons and sourcing food that grows naturally within the climate that you live.
